We Handle Smoke Chamber Parging

Unparged smoke chambers create more friction and turbulence, and can allow excessive heat to pass through the smoke chamber walls and start a fire.

The smoke chamber is the area directly above the fireplace damper that helps smoke find its way up the chimney’s flue. Shaped like an upside-down funnel, smoke and hot gases come into direct contact with the tapered smoke chamber walls as you burn your fires. For this reason, building code requires that the smoke chamber walls be at least 8” thick and “parged” smooth.

In some cases, the smoke chamber has not been parged, or holes in the parging may be present. In addition, sometimes the bottom flue tile is not sealed properly to the smoke chamber. Cracks and holes in the smoke chamber can be very dangerous. Parging is the process by which the inside surfaces of the smoke chamber are sealed with a layer of mortar. Parging smooth seals off any holes or gaps where heated flue gases or carbon monoxide might escape, reducing the risk of a fire or physical harm to the occupants.

About Chamber-Tech 2000

A smoke chamber parged with Chamber Tech 2000 significantly decreases the chances of an accidental fire and increases draft.

Smoke chamber walls without properly insulated parging make it more difficult for your chimney to draft properly and can be a major fire hazard. When parging smoke chambers in the Sacramento area, A to Z Chimney Services’ technicians use Ahrens’ Chamber-Tech 2000, which is a specialized mortar engineered specifically for smoke chambers.

Chamber-Tech 2000 is a specialized insulating mortar specifically designed to address smoke chamber deficiencies. Able to stick to vertical and inverted surfaces, Chamber-Tech 2000 can be applied and smoothed on the smoke chamber walls to seal off and insulate this critical area of your fireplace system.

Unparged smoke chambers create more friction and turbulence, and can allow excessive heat to pass through the smoke chamber walls and start a fire. A smoke chamber parged with Chamber-Tech 2000 significantly decreases the chances of an accidental fire and increases draft. Chamber-Tech 2000 will insulate, reducing conduction to combustible materials, adding needed structural strength, and at the same time, shaping the smoke chamber to help reduce turbulence and establish a strong draft.

Testimonials

I had used A to Z several years ago to have sun screens installed on our home and had a great experience, so it was only natural that I’d call them back to clean our dryer vent when my dryer started taking a long time to dry our clothes.

All I can say is WOW! The hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw how much lint they extracted from my vent! Can you say MAJOR FIRE HAZARD? Needless to say, we’ll be having A to Z back out a lot more often to make sure it never gets this dirty again!
