The demand for instant results has been creeping into every corner of our lives for quite some time now. We’re used to smartphone apps that virtually eliminate any wait time we might’ve had for certain services, computer processing speeds and capabilities that would make that old Commodore 64C roll over in its grave, Internet upload and download speeds that would make early dial-up providers stand in amazement, and movie and TV streaming services that begin in seconds because of the afore-mentioned Internet speeds.

A dirty or neglected chimney can lead to structure fires, property loss, carbon monoxide poisoning, even death. You don’t want to invite just anyone into your home to provide such an important service. You need someone you can trust—not only to inspect and clean your chimney thoroughly but not to track soot all over your house during the process.

You don’t want to find yourself in this guy’s situation. The weather could cool off at any time, possibly sooner than anticipated. Walking around the house in a winter coat and gloves and turning the thermostat up is no fun for anyone. Beat the fall rush and have your chimney cleaned and inspected while the weather is still warm.

This instant gratification has made us, as a society, far less patient than we once were. We’ll settle for instant coffee when we’d much rather have a delicious cup from our French press just because we think we don’t have a few extra minutes to spare. There’s nothing wrong with this. We’re all guilty of impatience at one point or another. If you’re a homeowner, you may be guiltier than the rest.

Most homeowners with a fireplace have been told about the importance of having their chimney system cleaned annually (or more often depending on how heavily they rely on it during heating season), and a large portion now acknowledge this importance and make an annual inspection and cleaning part of their yearly to-do list. Yet somehow chimney maintenance is deprioritized until colder weather sets in. Homeowners can then be seen scrambling to make their appointments so they can start using their fireplaces to keep warm at night. What many of these homeowners complain about, however, is the wait time involved between scheduling the appointment and actually having the work completed.

They’re not overly excited about waiting a few days or weeks for their respective chimney service companies to be able to fit them into their schedule. Some homeowners, due to their impatience, will settle for a non-certified chimney company; in doing so, they may be saving a few dollars in upfront costs, but they could very well be spending a lot more down the road, as these fly-by-night sweeps could overlook a small issue that could have disastrous consequences for you and your family.

Rather than settling for an untrained alternative simply because they can come service your chimney system a day or two sooner in October, why not call a reputable company during the warmer summer months to take care of all of your chimney system needs. This may prove to be a little difficult for some since your chimney might be one of the farthest things from your mind when it’s not cold outside. The professionals at A to Z Chimney Sweep would like to change your way of thinking. Your chimney safety is on our minds 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

A little planning and forethought can help to ensure that you receive your annual service from a reputable, certified company. Enjoy your fires this year with peace of mind, knowing your chimney was swept and inspected by one of A to Z’s CSIA-certified chimney sweeps.
