Gas Log Lighter Installation & Replacement
Gas log lighters are a wonderful convenience for helping you get your fire started quickly and easily! Wood burning fireplaces have employed gas log lighters for many years, and they’re a luxury that can help reduce the need for excessive newspaper and small kindling.
A gas log lighter looks very similar to a gas barbecue’s burner tube. It’s a small diameter metal pipe with a bunch of small holes drilled into it to. The burner tubes are usually about ½” in diameter and about 12” to 18” long. They’re usually installed close to the floor of the firebox and positioned beneath the wood grate.
Gas Log Lighter Replacement
Because metal gas log lighters are exposed to so much direct heat, they often become warped or develop holes.Best-case scenario: these conditions can waste gas by directing the flame to areas not directly beneath your wood. Worst-case scenario: they can be potentially dangerous by allowing too much gas to flood into the fireplace causing excessively high temperatures and / or causing smoke and carbon monoxide to spill into your home!
In addition, sometimes the wrong type of materials have been used to connect the gas log lighter tube to the main gas line coming out of the wall. Improper connectors such as soft copper or aluminum tubing, or flexible stainless steel tubing are not tough enough for the harsh, super-heated environment a fireplace typically dishes out. The potential for melting or puncturing the soft or flexible materials and causing a gas leak in the wrong place can be disastrous!
A to Z Chimney Sweep replaces damaged or improperly installed gas log lighters on a regular basis and usually has the necessary parts stocked on their chimney sweeping vans. If your gas log lighter needs to be replaced, we’ll be happy to get you back on track quickly and easily.

Gas Log Lighter Instructions
Usually, a removable gas cock key can be inserted into the wall and turned in order to open a valve and allow the gas to come into the gas log lighter to be ignited. The safest way to use a gas log lighter is to have all your paper and kindling arranged in your fireplace ready to go. Then, position one or two pieces of paper beneath the log grate right next to the gas log lighter’s burner holes (they look similar to a gas bbq grill’s burner tubes). Light the paper in several places, and then turn on your gas valve.
Getting your gas log lighter lit in this order will save your eyebrows and bangs from an unexpected “close encounter of the burnt kind!”

A to Z’s Technician did a terrific job cleaning out my dryer vent! He was very pleasant to work with and professional. He cleaned the outside dryer vent ductwork. It hadn't been cleaned in 10 years so there was a lot of lint and buildup in the ductwork. He said there wasn't much airflow going through the ductwork.
That could explain why it was taking so long for the clothes to dry. It was also a huge fire hazard. He cleaned up the area outside. I couldn't even tell he had been there. He pulled off the bottom of the dryer to check for lint build up in the dryer. There was a lot of lint in there too. He said he could clean the inside of the dryer also for an extra charge of $50.00.
I thought that was a very reasonable price so I had him clean the inside of the dryer also. I am very pleased with his work and glad I finally found someone to clean the vent. His company also automatically makes an appointment to come back in tow years to clean it again. The appointment will be in two years for the same date as the original visit. He put a magnet on the front of the dryer with the future appointment date so I don't forget. I will definitely use his service again.
